In an effort to enhance sustainability in the market, Pepsi Frito Lay sought to electrify their transit trucks used for distributing products to local market customers. This major change required a substantial upgrade to their distribution facility in Richmond, Virginia with the addition of EV charging stations.

In conjunction with Energy Services West / QISG, and their engineering partner, Sumter Utilities substation crews installed 61 ATOM Power dual port EV chargers, an additional two 120kW fast chargers, and the supporting ‘SMART’ Atom PURPL Panels.

The work required constant communication among crew members, and a little creativity in coordinating the work while the distribution facility remained fully operational. As the crew learned new techniques and tackled unfamiliar territory in the world of EV charging, they regularly worked to troubleshoot challenges that arose along the way.

Ultimately, the project was completed safely and without incident. Pepsi Frito Lay was very pleased with the work Sumter Utilities completed.
