At Sumter Utilities, safety is more than a box to check.
It’s about protecting and caring for our people – our employees, our customers, and our community.
“The Sumter Way”
We always say that our commitment to safety is The Sumter Way, ensuring we go home safe every day. And that attitude stretches from our headquarters to the ground beneath a bucket truck, to the homes where families wait for their loved ones to return each day.
Safety is number one.
And it shows in our culture and attitude. Safety is a job we take seriously.

For our employees &
their families
Our safety culture and the practices that come from it give our crews confidence and peace of mind as they come to work each day.
For our
customers
Our focus on safety ensures more productive and efficient projects. It provides security for our customer’s reputation.
We do more than talk about safety.
It’s easy to simply say we’re about safety, but from day to day our commitment to safety is evident in our actions.
At Sumter, our safety effort is unique because it is led by our Operations team and supported by our Safety team. Both dedicated teams work together to ensure everyone goes home safely every day. Highly engaged leaders, an effective daily job hazards analysis, adoption of the capacity model, and a robust observation program ensure we are prepared to work safely and productively each day.
And our safety record proves that these efforts, and our entire safety approach, work. Our sterling reputation is a source of great pride. Sumter Utilities has one of the lowest TIIR ratings in the industry.
Our commitment to
safety is ongoing.
Through our training programs, Sumter works to:
- Further develop and expand our workforce
- Mitigate job hazards and lower on-the-job incidents
- Ensure a safe workplace where workers feel confident in their abilities
- Increase employee retention and morale
Additionally, Sumter’s Department of Labor certified apprenticeship lineman program is taking a leading role in developing a new generation of line workers.
The Capacity Model
As a leader in the industry, Quanta’s safety program – The Capacity Model – ensures knowledge and awareness of jobsite hazards. This model is oriented around allowing for the capacity for failure, so that crews are ready and prepared for anything that comes their way.
