Clements Ferry Road Expansion

Overhead Distribution

Location: Mount Pleasant,  South Carolina

Client: Dominion Energy Southeast (SC)

Start Date: Early 2018

Completion Date: Fall 2022

Outside of Charleston, South Carolina, the city of Mount Pleasant set out to widen Clements Ferry Road, a high-traffic roadway accomodating commuters in and out of Charleston. With the expansion of the road came upgrades to the accompanying infrastructure, including power lines.

The project required collaboration between road construction crews and contractors in various industries: water, sewer, gas, paving, and department of transportation, along with Sumter Utilities who was tasked with replacing more than 100 poles and wire.

With so many moving parts along a high-traffic area, clear communication, attention to detail, and coordination were critical. Sumter was assigned one point of contact to coordinate with other contractors to ensure that work could happen seamlessly. It was like a dance, where every move was choreographed in detail to avoid delays.

Sumter Utilities foreman spoke with other contractors on the job daily, sometimes even hourly. Three crews worked around rush hour traffic and other key players to ensure that the job was completed safely and on time.
