Lots of Love for our Linemen Following Hurricane Beryl
On Monday, July 8, just on the tail of a holiday weekend, Hurricane Beryl blew through Houston, Texas. It was forecasted to simply come ashore as a tropical storm, and projected to hit much farther west, but the storm instead swept through the fourth largest city as a category 1 hurricane. It caused damage Houston hasn’t seen since Hurricane Ike in 2008.
While the storm was still actively causing damage, Sumter Utilities crews were mobilizing to head west and assist with restoration efforts. More than 130 Sumter linemen answered the call, and spent a week or more restoring power for communities in need. The damage was extensive, and the repairs will continue for weeks to come, but as more and more Houstonians got their power back and finally got some relief from the heat, the kind words of thanks started pouring in via our website and Facebook pages.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to help communities in need, but it’s always encouraging and helpful to receive such positive feedback from the people we help.
Words of Thanks for Sumter Linemen
I just want to say thank you and God bless you for sending your men to help restore our power in Eagle Spring community in Humble Texas, we are all very greatful. Tell all your workers who came, they are appreciated.
I wanted to drop a line and pass on our most sincere appreciation for the help provided by your linemen with the restoration of our neighborhood power in Humble, Texas. Beryl wiped us out, and created quite a mess. The men and women who volunteered to leave their own families to help folks like us, strangers, are the heroes of our time. Some of your folks were directly responsible for making the repairs in our neighborhood, restoring our power after 108 hours without. Thank you and God Bless your teams! Your folks have the gratitude of us and our neighbors and I am sure thousands more Texans.
From The Woodlands, TX your utility vehicles brought tears to my eyes. We cannot thank you enough!
THANK YOU to the Sumter crews who restored our power in Atascocita, Texas! They’re a hard-working bunch who always had a wave or a honk of the horn for the kids who came out to watch them work.

Hello… I am a resident in Houston, Texas who has been impacted by Hurricane Beryl. The power lines in our backyard blew in the storm, and we have sat in unbearable heat with downed lines all week. We had linemen from your company come repair our lines this afternoon. It was fascinating to have a front row seat to watch them work to fix everything. They were efficient and systematic in each step they did. I want to thank you and your men for all the residents in Houston who have been suffering from the storm. We sincerely appreciate the time spent away from their families to help strangers in need. I hope you can pass this message on to your linemen. They are wonderful! God Bless.
Thank you from Huffman, Tx! 159 hours without power! The crews were quick and safe, getting things set up and on to the next. Thank you for leaving your families to help us! Safe travels back home!

I can’t thank you enough!! We lost power around 4 a.m. Sunday/Monday as the hurricane blew through, and we are HOT and angry. Thankful to everyone trying to get us back up and running. It has been rough around here.
