Sumter Utilities, Inc. is the result of merging two well-established power construction contracting companies, Sumter Builders, Inc. and Utilities Construction Company of South Carolina, Inc.  Quanta Services, Inc. purchased Sumter Builders, Inc. in 1998 and kept the Sumter Builders name.  Quanta Services, Inc. then purchased Utilities Construction Company of South Carolina, Inc. in 2000 and decided to merge the two companies to reduce overhead costs by combining both companies under one management team.
